Even a frequent and apparently “trivial” operation such as changing the transmission ratio can sometimes hide real obstacles. In some cases, in fact, changing the ratio cannot be solved simply by moving the engine, but requires adjusting the length of the chain. In these situations, having a chain breaker compatible with the pitch of your chain - whether it is series 215, 219 or 428 (what is meant by chain “pitch”? Learn more in the article “Tech Talk | The transmission of a kart”) - is essential to intervene quickly, precisely and safely. How do you identify the most suitable model? We have selected six chain breaker tools designed to meet the real needs of the paddock: from the amateur mechanic, who is looking for a compact and practical tool, to the expert technician who needs a stable, resistant and reliable tool over time. The products are organized by chain pitch and range of use. Although they share a similar structure, they differ in design details and specific application areas: type of thrust, link centering system or the possibility of working on multiple chain pitches.

Chain breaker for chains pitch 219

This chain breaker is the most economical solution for 219 pitch chains. It is designed for karts with 50, 60, 100 and 125 cc direct drive engines, categories in which this type of chain is very common. The compact structure, made of stamped metal, is equipped with two coarse-threaded screws: one for extracting the pin and one for inserting it. The square shape makes it ideal for working on the bench, where it can be supported to increase the force applied, or fixed in a vice. At the same time, it remains easy to handle even for freehand use. The geometry of the tool facilitates precise centering of the links, especially useful when working in awkward positions, reducing the risk of forcing the screw and breaking the tip of the extractor. Operation is simple: an ejection screw, with a pointed end, allows you to extract the pin and disconnect the links, while a second screw with a flat or slightly concave end allows you to reinsert the pin and close the chain. The body of the chain breaker is equipped with a groove that allows the extracted pin to pass, aligning itself with the axis on which the insertion screw moves. It is important to note that this model is not compatible with chains of different pitches and does not allow adaptation through interchangeable punches or bushings. The strong point of this chain breaker is the quality-price ratio: with a modest expense, you get a simple, but effective tool, which - if used correctly - carries out its task reliably, accompanying you during your days on the track.
