4 FIA KARTING 8877-2022 HOMOLOGATED GLOVES (FROM 79 TO 115 EUROS!)

One of the most significant regulatory changes of the 2025 racing season is the entry into force of FIA regulation 8877-2022, which makes it mandatory - as of January 1 - to use suits, gloves and shoes homologated to this standard in all competitions included in the CIK-FIA international calendar. This regulation applies, therefore, both to Multi-brand competitions, such as the World and European Championships organized directly by the FIA Karting or those of the WSK circuit, and to some international events of Single-brand championships, such as the IAME X30 Euro Series, for example, or the Rotax MAX Challenge Winter Series (here is the complete list of events affected). The goal of the new regulations is to ensure higher standards of safety on the track by introducing more rigorous tests on the strength of materials. Thus, for the first time, karting gloves also fall under a specific FIA regulation. To obtain homologation, these must meet a number of requirements: be one-piece, fully cover the hand and partially cover the forearm, as well as have a snug fit at the wrist to prevent them from accidentally slipping off. The cuff must have a minimum length of 80 mm. In addition, the gloves undergo three tests:

  • Mechanical abrasion test: the material is subjected to controlled friction at 150 rpm on a rough surface to simulate wear conditions during track use. To pass the test, the glove must endure without puncturing or losing its structural integrity, thus ensuring effective protection in case of accidental contact.
  • Heat resistance test: materials must withstand temperatures of 100°C for at least 10 seconds without suffering structural damage or compromising rider safety.
  • Seam strength test: seams must withstand a minimum force of 300 N.

OMP KS-X

According to a report from OMP (an Italian brand part of the Racing Force Group), KS-X gloves-marketed in 2024-were among the first FIA 8877-2022 homologated models to be launched on the market. Made of ultralight stretch fabric, they feature a pre-curved palm with non-slip silicone inserts, a configuration the manufacturer says is designed to improve grip on the steering wheel and reduce fatigue while driving. The KS-X gloves adopt external seams, a solution taken from OMP's motorsports gloves and developed by the Italian company in collaboration with Ayrton Senna, with the aim of optimizing sensitivity at the wheel. The model also features an elastic band on the wrist, designed to ensure a stable and secure fit. Available in three colors (neon yellow, white and black), the KS-X are offered in six adult sizes (XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL) and three children's sizes (4, 5, 6). We recommend checking the official OMP website for the size guide to choose the most suitable size. With a price of 115 euros (excluding VAT), they are the most expensive gloves we offer.
